The Ruins at Sassafras | WEDDING INSPIRATION

If you're engaged and planning your dream wedding, you may have heard the term "styled shoot" being thrown around in the wedding industry. So, what exactly is a styled shoot? In simple terms, it's a photo shoot designed to showcase a specific theme or style, often with the intention of inspiring future brides.

Recently, I had the opportunity to be a part of a sunset styled-shoot at The Ruins at Sassafras in New Lebanon, NY and it was such a dreamy experience. Here are a few key takeaways from the shoot that may help you understand the concept of a styled shoot better:

1. It's all about the details. One of the main reasons why styled shoots are so popular is that they allow wedding vendors to showcase their talent in a more creative way. From the decor to the florals, every element of the shoot was carefully planned to fit the ethereal theme. For instance, we had a beautiful stone and forest backdrop, vibrant floral arrangements in earthy shades, and chose the perfect timing to capture the sunset from the tablescape.

2. Collaboration is key. Styled shoots are usually a collaborative effort between different creatives within the wedding industry. For our shoot, we had a fantastic team made up of a photographer, a planner, a florist, a rental company, and a venue owner. Working together enabled us to bring our individual strengths to the table, resulting in a cohesive and beautiful shoot.

3. It's not a real wedding. One thing to keep in mind is that styled shoots are not actual weddings. While they are meant to look like real weddings, they often lack some of the logistical considerations that come with an actual wedding day. For example, we didn't have to worry about timelines, guest lists, or the weather. It's important to keep this in mind when drawing inspiration from a styled shoot for your own wedding.

I absolutely love to participate in styled shoots during my downtime between weddings, because they allow for a creative way for wedding vendors to showcase their skills and inspire future brides. And gives us the opportunity to dream big and create something wonderful.
